We will finish up our Spanish studies in the next couple of days. There will be a quiz over numbers1-20 and a short conversation to memorize before we move on to the next language.
8/23/10 > Student responsibilties
Beginning the second week of school, students will be expected to arrive to class on time with all proper materials. The first week of school typically allows students the opportunity to get organized and to design a routine that will allow them to move about the school efficiently and effectively. Please encourage your student to establish a daily routine that will allow them to fully benefit from classroom instruction and discussion.

This week students will be getting settled and beginning to work on Spanish material. All classes will have a short quiz on Thursday to start the year.
5/21/10 > Last post of the Year!
Due to a busy schedule full of end-of-the-year activities, this will be our last post for the school year. Please check your child's grades on powerschool for accuracy. All textbooks and workbooks must be returned to Mr. Benbow in good condition to avoid fines. Thank you for all of your hard work this year, students! Have a great summer!
5/19/10 > Comparative Cultures
The last two weeks of school we will be studying French. Students will have several quizzes covering French culture and basic conversational phrases, including colors and numbers.

Students will be reviewing Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 this week. The last week of school we will be going over missing work and checking-in textbooks and workbooks.

Students will have their Level 1 final this week. Next week we will be collecting workbooks and textbooks.

Students should have completed their Chapter 3 test by now. We will be watching a movie for the next couple of days. Mr. Benbow will be at a meeting on Thursday morning, so those classes will have a substitute.

This week, students will be preparing for the Chapter 6 abbreviated Test on Friday. The final will follow some time next week. It will cover material from Chapters 1-5. I hope to complete the final before the end of next week, as the 8th grade Six Flags field trip is next Friday, and most 8th grade students will be absent that day.
5/11/10 > Comparative Cultures
We will be having a quiz over the colors and numbers 1-10 in Spanish on Wednesday of this week. We will complete our Spanish studies by Friday and move on to French for the last two weeks of school.

Students will complete their Chapter 3 test early on this week. There will be a speaking test and a paragraph writing test on Monday and Tuesday consecutively. Following the test, we will have an overall review of our progress this year in order to prepare students for Level 1B next year.

Students will complete Chapter 6 this week. We would like to begin our final by the end of this week. The final will cover Chapters 1-6.

Students will be playing a review game tomorrow for the Chapter 3 Test. The test was postponed until Friday, due to numerous field trips.

Today students learned about direct object pronouns and their placement in Spanish sentences.

Students will finish with Spanish culture Wednesday. There will be a quiz on Thursday over the material.

Students will be finishing review for the Chapter 3 test. The test will begin on Thursday, at the earliest.

We will finish Chapter 3 by the middle of the week. The Chapter 3 test will be on Thursday. We will finish all three sections of the test by next Monday.

Students will complete Chapter 6 by next week. The final exam for Level 1B will be May 10th at the earliest, with a possible delay of a couple of days depending on the pace of our review.

Today our students began studying Spanish. We will continue our Spanish studies for the next two weeks. There will be a Spanish culture quiz on Wednesday.
4/30/10 > Mr. Benbow will return to school today.
All classes will continue with activities begun during Mr. Benbow's absence. Next Monday, students will move into new material in their respective chapters. Final exams and quizzes will be moved back a few days to make up for Mr. Benbow's time away from school. Thank you for your understanding.

This week students will finish up material from Chapter 3. This includes weather expressions using the verb HACER and the verbs NEVAR and LLOVER. This will be the last chapter we cover this year. There will be a Chapter 3 test near the end of next week. Once this test is completed, we will watch a film and then begin a total review of chapters 1-3 for the last couple of weeks of the school year.

Students will finish the first half of Chapter 6 this week. We will continue with the second half of the chapter and plan to have our final in about two weeks. The focus of this week will be the stem changing verbs PROBAR, PODER, and PREFERIR.

This week we will finish our German studies. The next language we will look at is Spanish. Most likely, we will finish the wek going over some Spanish history and culture.

Students will be completing make-up work for the end of the grading period. There will be a substitute for 4th hour, as Mr. Benbow will be on a field trip with the Level 1A classes. The last (6th) grading period begins next Monday.

This week classes will cover limited material as we are MAP testing. Level 1A will cover Vocabulary Part II of Chapter 3. Level 1B will cover Vocabulary I from Chapter 6. Comparative Cultures will work on French numbers and colors.

This week we will be starting French. We will cover culture and history in the beginning of the week, with a short quiz on Thursday.

Takes place March 30th & 31st, as well as April 6th & 7th. Students will be on a modified schedule these days. They will only have four class periods, instead of the regular eight period day.

We will be watching a movie about the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda this week.

Students will be starting the second half of chapter three this week. Due to the modified schedule, we will move at a slower pace than usual.

Today and tomorrow we will be reviewing material from the first half of Chapter 3. There will be a quiz on Thursday over the vocabulary and grammar points.

Today and tomorrow we will finish our review of the Chapter 5 test. There will be a test-retake/quiz over some Chapter 5 material on Thursday, as many students did not do well on a specific portion of the Chapter 5 test.

Today and tomorrow students will continue to work on conjugating the verb SER. We will also practice subject verb agreement with gender and number. Questions words and how questions are formed in Spanish will also be discussed.

The immediate future tense will be the focus of our next couple of classes. This involves the use of the verb IR as a helping verb. Students will have classwork/homework that deals with constructing sentences in the immediate future tense.

Today students reviewed a quiz they completed before Thanksgiving Break. Tomorrow, we will continue with Chapter 2. Before Winter Break, there will be another more extensive quiz over the material from the first half of Chapter 2, plus the vocabulary from the second half of Chapter 2. All students have been made aware of this bigger quiz. It will most likely take place around December 14th or so.

Students corrected a homework assignment that was given before Thanksgiving Break. Tomorrow, they will continue with Chapter 4, moving on to invitations and the formation of the immediate future tense. Chapter 4 will be completed prior to Winter Break. There will be a Chapter Exam around the 14th of December or so. I will keep students posted on the exact date as we progress through the chapter.

Today and tomorrow we will be reviewing classroom expectations. Students are expected to come to class with three main ideas in mind: 1) be respectful: treat others the way you would wish to be treated, be courteous, patient, and understanding, 2) be responsible: take care of your own problems, don't worry about what others are doing, make good decisions and be honest, 3) be ready: have proper materials, be on time, and focus on instruction.

As far as materials are concerned, students must have at least two pencils with erasers, three sheets of paper, and their textbook for every class. Workbooks will be kept in the classroom, so students will often not need to take these items home.

Students who do not bring required items to class will initially lose privileges and may eventually lose extra credit points.

All textbooks must have book covers by the second full week of school.
